Dear Colleagues,
Our first interdisciplinary meeting in 2007, which focused on nearly all aspects in CDH in an interdisciplinary manner (including gynecologists, pediatricians, radiologists and pediatric surgeons) was very successful. It led to the formation of the Euro Consortium group, which now is performing a multicenter trial in ventilation. Despite ongoingclinical practice and scientific advances in the past two years, the management of CDH still remains a challenging task. Ethical and financial needs for more efficient, standardized therapies on the one side and the need to achieve progress in CDH-treatment and research on the other side urged us to put the questions: What are the advances so far? In what direction should we move? To discuss these questions we have again invited renowned specialists on all aspects of CDH to Mannheim. This year we performed the 500th ECMO run in Mannheim and more than half of the children were affected with a CDH. This meeting of experts from such a wide range of
specialties in neonatal medicine will raise awareness of each other’s challenges and might offer solutions by looking at aspects from another point of view. We look forward to welcoming you to Mannheim!
